UNIBASQ is a regional agency responsible for quality assurance and evaluation in higher education in the Basque Country (Euskadi), Spain. Established in 2004, it conducts external evaluation and accreditation of institutions and educational programmes within the Basque university system. The Agency applies the principle of institutional independence and operates in accordance with the ESG standards of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA).
UNIBASQ’s core areas of activity include programmatic accreditation of educational programmes, auditing universities’ internal quality assurance systems, evaluation of academic staff performance, and expert assessment of research quality. Evaluation processes are conducted through a peer-review mechanism involving national and international experts and are designed to ensure transparency and accountability.
UNIBASQ is a member of ENQA and is listed in EQAR, and its decisions are recognized within the European Higher Education Area (EHEA). The Agency’s work supports the international competitiveness of Basque universities, the recognition of qualifications, and the development of academic mobility.
