Agency for Quality Assurance through Accreditation of Study Programs

: 2002

About the Organization
AQAS is an independent accreditation agency established in Germany in 2002, specializing primarily in the quality evaluation and accreditation of higher education programs. The Agency is headquartered in Cologne. It is recognized by the German Accreditation Council (Akkreditierungsrat) and operates in accordance with the ESG standards of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA).

AQAS’s core activities include programmatic accreditation of bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programs, as well as the assessment of higher education institutions’ internal quality assurance systems (system accreditation). The process is conducted through a peer-review mechanism involving independent international experts. The evaluation criteria cover the quality of curricula, learning outcomes, faculty capacity, governance systems, and student participation.

In addition to Germany, AQAS operates across Europe, Central Asia, the Middle East, and other regions. The Agency is a member of ENQA and is listed in EQAR, and its accreditation decisions are recognized internationally. Accordingly, AQAS accreditation is an important factor in strengthening the international credibility of higher education programs, supporting recognition of qualifications, and enhancing academic mobility.
