Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business

: 1916

AACSB International is the world’s largest global network and standard-setting organization in the field of business education. It brings together higher education institutions, faculty, and the business community with the aim of enhancing the quality and impact of business education. AACSB accreditation is internationally recognized as the highest benchmark of quality for business schools.

The organization is an independent, non-governmental association operating on a membership basis. The accreditation process is carried out based on principles-based standards and covers areas such as strategy, governance, faculty composition, research activity, and societal impact. Accreditation includes ongoing monitoring and periodic re-evaluation mechanisms.

The American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business was established in 1916 by seventeen American universities and colleges as an accreditation body. The first accreditations were conducted in 1919. For many years, the association accredited only business schools in the United States; however, in the second half of the twentieth century, it adopted a more international approach to business education.

The first institution accredited outside the United States was the Alberta School of Business at the University of Alberta in 1968. The first institution accredited outside North America was ESSEC Business School in France in 1997, and the first institution accredited outside North America and Europe was KFUPM Business School in 2000. The association’s current name was adopted in 2001.

In 2019, it obtained ISO 9001 certification.
