Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology

: 1932

ABET is a prominent non-governmental, non-profit organization established in the United States in 1932 that accredits educational programs in engineering, technology, computer science, and applied and natural sciences. ABET accreditation is widely recognized globally as the “gold standard” of quality for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) disciplines.

ABET primarily conducts programmatic accreditation (rather than institutional accreditation). The evaluation process is carried out through peer review by expert teams composed of independent specialists and industry representatives. Key criteria include student outcomes, curriculum content, faculty capacity, physical and technical resources, continuous improvement systems, and integration with industry.

Today, ABET has accredited thousands of programs in more than 40 countries. Its accreditation plays an important role in supporting graduates’ professional licensure pathways, international recognition of qualifications, and competitiveness in the labor market. For this reason, ABET accreditation is considered a globally trusted mark of quality and credibility for engineering and technology programs.
