Erik Martijnse is a senior civil servant, educational policymaker, and public administration leader who has spent over two decades steering higher education strategy, regulation, and supervision in the Netherlands. Currently serving as a Managing Director within the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (OCW) as of January 2024, his work focuses on high-level institutional management and national education strategic development.
Prior to his current directorate appointment, Mr. Martijnse built a profound legacy within the Dutch Inspectorate of Education, where he spent 13 years as the Director of Higher Education Supervision. In this capacity, he was responsible for safeguarding the quality, compliance, and financial health of Dutch universities and institutions of applied sciences, orchestrating national inspection frameworks that directly impacted the integrity of the country’s tertiary education sector.
